Healthy
volunteers are needed for an experiment that will be conducted at the Section
of Orofacial pain and Jaw Function at School of Dentistry, HEALTH, Aarhus
University (Building No. 1610). The
volunteers will be requested to participate in 2 sessions (approx. 1 hr each).
Inclusion criteria
§
Healthy men or women (18-40 years of age).
§
No ongoing pain in the face or any other parts of the body in the last 6
months.
§
No presence of serious general health problems.
§
No ongoing or chronic intake of painkiller.
In
the experiment you will be asked to perform biting tasks (clenching your teeth
together) on a bite force device corresponding to 40% of your maximum voluntary
bite force.
Subsequently,
you will get an intramuscular injection of glutamate or isotonic saline on one
side of your masseter muscle. You will be asked to fill out several
questionnaires and the blood flow in the jaw muscle will be measured by a
device applied to the skin above the muscle. After that, you will be asked to
perform the biting tasks again.
After completion of this experiment, you will be compensated
with 300 DKK.
