Study
Volunteers Required
Oats, Barley
Dietary Fibres (β-Glucan) and Gastric Mobility
We are conducting a series of
investigations with dietary fibres (β-glucan) from oats and barley blended in
fruit drink and it enhances gastric mobility and satiety.
Oat and Barley contains dietary
fibres (β-Glucan), and intake of these fibres daily will reduce cholesterol
level and maintain healthy balanced blood sugar level and other immunological
functions. It is a non-invasive testing and the electrodes are attached to
different parts of abdomen and record the digestion and absorptive processes of
the gut using the stomach mobility.
Who Can Participate?
Our
studies involve both healthy males and females with no history of medical
condition or allergic conditions and commit to 5 different morning sessions of
testing.
Healthy Volunteers Must Be:
1.
Aged 18-30 years old
2.
Body Mass Index (BMI) 18
-25 kg/m2
3.
Good general health
4.
No history of medical
condition or allergic conditions.
What Does the Study Involve?
1.
All
participants will be asked to eat a medium calorie balanced diet with no
alcohol/drug intake. Overnight fasting prior to the study is required. Also no coffee
and tobacco 8 hours prior start of test. The whole testing will take about 3
hours per session.
2.
The
participants will be asked to drink (250 ml) of oat and/or barley β-Glucan blended fruit drink as test drink or 250 ml
of control drink.
3.
Electrophysiological
Testing (Gastric mobility) will be conducted.
Test location:
Department
of Food Science, Rolighedsvej 26, 5.floor, 1958 Frederiksberg.
Reward Involved:
Gift
cards of 300 DKK per day participating. Note this includes expenses for buying
